Snow hits the Spen Valley

THE worst snow to hit the country in nearly two decades brought chaos to the Spen Valley this week.

A sharp drop in temperature meant the snow froze, causing dangerous driving conditions and many bus services were disrupted - leaving Birkenshaw Bottoms and the Fieldhead Estate with no buses at all.

Some businesses remained shut after the weekend and the majority of schools were closed, which meant children were free to have fun outdoors.

Pupils at Hartshead Junior and Infant School were still able to get to school and enjoyed making snowmen, with headteacher James Lewis even making it in from Sheffield.
