So proud of our school's heritage
WE have long been proud of our educational establishments in Heckmondwike and further proof of that was seen when the Cawley Lane Junior, Infant and Nursery School celebrated its centenary recently.
A special anniversary assembly was held where the entire school took us on a 100-year journey.
The youngsters took us from the 1900s right through to the present day through verse, song, acting and dance, with each school year taking part.
A packed audience of parents and probably a few other family members along with honoured guests were enthralled by the knowledge imparted by the children as we shared 'memories' of the roaring 20s, two world wars. 1966 and our World Cup win was remembered along with personalities from all walks of life.
Given the state we find ourselves in at this time one can only hope that these youngsters are allowed to build on the foundation given to them at Cawley Lane for if their development continues as they progress then they will provide us with a future to look forward to.
Everyone involved with the assembly should take the greatest pride in it for it was quite superb.
Whilst one should never single out individuals as it is the team effort of so many that makes a school, company or organisation what it is – I am going to.
Mr Thornton, Mr Marshall and finally a person who not just for their work in school but for many causes throughout the district, to the First Lady of Heckmondwike, Mrs Bustard, many, many thanks.
