GUTTED: The speed camera at Halifax Road, Hartshead Moor Top.

A SPEED camera at Hartshead Moor Top has been set alight.

The incident took place in Halifax Road at Hartshead Moor Top last weekend.

Coun John Lawson, who lives close to the area, said it seemed that the fire had been started intentionally by vandals.

He said: “A tyre was placed around the camera and set alight – it seems pretty obvious that this was an arson attack.”

The camera was irreparably damaged, and Kirklees Council will have to pay for its replacement.

A spokeswoman for the council said: “Kirklees Council have been made aware of the problem and already have plans in place to to fix the camera.”
