A MAN from Liversedege is getting into the Olympic spirit by volunteering at the London Paralympic Games.

Chris Trapps, from Lineham Court, is in the capital for the 11-day event to volunteer as a games-maker.

Chris, an educational support worker at Westfield Pupil Referral Unit in Batley, said the opportunity to volunteer during the school holidays was too good to turn down.

“I was originally wanting tickets for the games,” he said, “so I went on the London 2012 website to have a look, and noticed there were volunteering opportunities.

“I felt that, since I don’t work during the school holidays, it would be a great opportunity for me to get involved with the games – it’s a once-in-a-lifetime event.”

Chris, 52, travelled down to the games on Tuesday, and is camping at Eton Manor Rugby Club in east London for the duration of the games. He feels that his work background will help in his new volunteer role.

He said: “Obviously I work in education, but every job I have had has been working with people, and I am a good communicator, so hopefully I will be quite good at this.

“I am really looking forward to this – the Olympics and Paralympics is the biggest event Britain has seen during my lifetime, and I am so proud to be a part of it.”
