Spen Valley - easy to get to, harder to leave
A GLOSSY new brochure has been created to showcase the 'greatness of the Spen Valley' and attract new businesses, visitors and families to settle in the area.
The brochure and accompanying website, are split into four sections covering business, living in the valley, tourism and the great outdoors.
It is the brainchild of Heckmondwike and Cleckheaton town centre manager Keith Joplin, who was given a 8,000 grant from the Spen Valley area committee earlier this year.
"The idea is to create a vehicle to promote the benefits of the Spen Valley to would-be outside investors," Mr Joplin said.
"It is aimed at commercial businesses who are wanting to relocate, bringing with them the opportunity to create employment in the valley.
"The document shows four elements based on the fact that the Spen Valley is a great place to do business and to live in."
The brochure promotes the message that the Spen Valley is "a great place, easy to get to - harder to leave".
It points to the valley's strategic position just off the M62, placing it at the heart of West Yorkshire.
Attractions highlighted include the Spen Valley Greenway, the world's biggest Indian restaurant, excellent schools, independent shops, Spen Valley Civic Society's Fame Trail, its Bronte heritage, Cleckheaton Folk Festival and the Crown of Lights music festival in Heckmondwike.
The website will also carry links to Spen businesses, meaning would-be residents will have a list of amenities and community groups at their fingertips.
The brochure, which was launched at Whitcliffe Mount Business College, is the first of its kind in Kirklees, a fact which helped to secure the funding that enabled local firm NAK, of Westgate, Cleckheaton, to design the prospectus and website.
Area committee chairman Coun Andrew Pinnock said: "This is something new for Kirklees and it's one of the attractions that motivated the area committee members to finance it.
"It will do a valuable job because most people who will not know about the Spen Valley will be very well informed by the time they've seen the material."
The document will be available to view at Cleckheaton town hall and at other sites around the valley.
