Support Fox’s Biscuits says animal charity
HAPPY: Four Paws UK is encouraging shoppers to buy free range eggs.
PUDDING lovers can help provide better conditions for egg laying hens by supporting Fox’s Biscuits.
Currently food companies do not have to indicate whether eggs in their ready made products come from caged or free range hens. The charity is campaigning for laws to be changed.
Now international animal welfare charity Four Paws UK is urging consumers to consider the source of eggs in baked and processed foods – and says the Batley biscuit company has stopped using eggs from caged hens in its products.
And the charity is urging shoppers to think about hens’ welfare as they buy their eggs for pancake day today.
Four Paws UK is encouraging people to choose free-range or organic eggs from birds who are able to enjoy a more natural life with the freedom to roam outside.
Spokeswoman Angelique Davies said: “Each and every shopper has the power to send a message about how they think hens should be treated. There is a legal requirement for eggs to be labelled with the production method – if in doubt look for a number 0 or 1 at the beginning of the code stamped on the egg. Avoid eggs with a number 3 – these are the ones from cages.”
