Take a chair and help Haiti

TAKE a seat and raise money for charity.

That was the challenge issued by Cleckheaton's Hills Supplies and its sister firm Over2Hills at the weekend.

The companies were giving away free chairs to the general public in return for a minimum 1 donation to Unicef's Haiti appeal.

It is not the first time they have held free charity open days; in the past they have invited local charities to come along and take chairs away as part of their scheme to re-use or re-cycle redundant office furniture.

But on Saturday they went a step further and asked people to go along and raise money for the victims of the earthquake as well.

Publicity officer Richard Senior said: "It was really successful. We raised just under 300 on the day and we're having a staff raffle which should raise another 50.

"We also had a tombola and refreshments, and had great support from local businesses; Fox's Biscuits gave us biscuits, and we got vouchers from Ponderosa, Showcase Cinema and Nandos."

Another charity open day is planned in April.
