Cleckheaton Fire Station's Blue Watch gearing up for a charity run in London.

Cleckheaton Fire Station's Blue Watch gearing up for a charity run in London.

FIREFIGHTERS in Spen will take part in a special charity event in London next month.

Seven firefighters based at Cleckheaton fire station will take part in the first Tunnel To Towers run in London on Sunday October 21.

The run starts in Bermondsey, through the Rotherhithe tunnel and finishes 5km later on the other side of the Thames at the Towers in Canary Wharf.

The run will be based on a similar event which is held annually in New York, to commemorate firefighter Steven Siller, who ran from Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Centre to help while the tragedy of 9/11 unfolded.

More than 10,000 people are expected to take part in the run, and it is hoped that the run will become an annual event.

The team will raise money for the FireFighters Charity and Cancer Research. Anyone who would like to sponsor the group can contact Cleckheaton Blue Watch on 01274 873066.
