Victim 'stable' after attack

A TEENAGER was left with serious head injuries when he was battered in a vicious late night attack in Heckmondwike.

The 19-year-old was attacked just before midnight on Friday, in a ginnel off Leeds Road, Liversedge, which runs from the A62 into the Firthcliffe estate.

Initially the victim's condition was described as critical but on Sunday he had improved and was transferred from Dewsbury and District Hospital to Leeds General Infirmary where he is now said to be stable.

Leeds Road was closed off from its entrance to the Firthcliffe estate to the Swan traffic lights while officers scoured the area for clues.

People living nearby said they heard a commotion and shouting around midnight in the ginnel.

A police spokesman said two men, both in their 40s, had been arrested in connection with the incident and bailed pending further inquiries.
