Young star Matthew’s red carpet dream

A YOUNG singer chosen to perform during the London 2012 Olympic Games hit the red carpet with a host of celebrities.

Matthew Pitchforth, 16, was selected to be part of the Youth Music Voices choir, which is performing during the Olympic Games.

And he was among 50 members of the choir chosen to record the official Team GB and Paralympics GB single, One Vision, with Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh and classical singer Alfie Boe.

The song made its debut at the Royal Albert Hall on May 11, where Matthew and the choir performed with Kimberley and Alfie in front of British Olympians, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

And the lucky Spen Valley Sports College pupil even walked the red carpet before the show with Kimberley and Alfie to promote the song.

He said: “Five of us were chosen by the director Richard Frostick to walk with him on the red carpet to promote the single.

“It was mind-blowing. We met Alfie and Kimberley and also Davina McCall, the comedian John Bishop and Mel C from the Spice Girls.

“We talked to them about the single and I talked to Kimberley about where I live, because she’s from Bradford.”

Matthew was selected with three other members of Huddersfield Choral Society youth choir – Laura Turner, Ann Wilkes and Ellie Pausey.

The four have already performed with the choir, including at the Velodrome in the Olympic Village, and Matthew will perform in Hyde Park for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

He said: “It is such a high and afterwards you can’t sleep.”

Matthew said when finished school he would be studying A levels at Leeds College of Music.

He added: “This all felt surreal at the beginning but now I have something to aim for.

“I want to perform in front of a crowd of people and I hope I can achieve that.”
