Councillors in South Elmsall will hold a minute’s silence at a special meeting tonight in memory of an 18-year-old trainee nurse who was killed when a minibus carrying a hen party crashed on the M62 a week ago.

Bethany Jones died after the bus collied with a lorry near junction 32 at Castleford last Friday at about 11:30am.

She was one of 21 women travelling to Liverpool for bride-to-be Stefanie Firth’s hen party.

Police said that 11 women remained in hospital and some faced a “long road to recovery.”

The council will meet at the Social Centre, on Westfield Lane tonight (Friday) at 7pm to discuss how they can support those involved in the accident.

Several other fundraising efforts are already underway.

Bethany’s friends have set a target of raising £50,000 for air ambulance charities and dozens will run the Upton Fun Run on May 19.
