Man in court over Gomersal pensioner’s death

A 26-year-old man is due to appear in court today (Tuesday) charged with the manslaughter of Gomersal pensioner Jean Myers.

Paul Holstead will appear before Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court to face two further robbery charges.

Mrs Myers, 89, of Thoresby Drive, Gomersal, was mugged in Quarry Road and suffered head injuries in the attack.

She was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary but died shortly after.

Tributes have been paid to Mrs Myers who has been described as ‘a wonderful woman’ who worked closely with Gomersal St Mary’s School and her local church.

Headteacher of Gomersal St Mary’s Susan Scott said: “The children and staff at Gomersal St Mary’s C.E. School and Nursery are devastated by the news of her death, it has deeply affected members of the school.”
