CLECKHEATON Sports Club is set to showcase some of the area’s hottest music talents.

Among those appearing at Lend us your Ears – an evening of music and verse – will be the Cleckheaton Panthers Folk Club, the Croppers folk club, Morley Folk Group and Blackwater.

Lend Us Your Ears will also feature members of Cleckheaton Poetry Club and the Yorkshire Dialect Society, all helping to raise money for Kirkwood Hospice’s £3m capital appeal to re-develop its in-patient unit.

Organiser David Lindsay came up with the idea for the event after he memorised over 100 poems for an unusual new year resolution – and he will be reciting some of those on the night.

He said: “Rather than it being a hobby, it’s nice turning it into something that can raise money for a good cause.”

So far more than £200 has been raised but it is hoped the total will be at elast twice as much for the appeal.

The event is on Friday June 22 at Cleckheaton Sports Club. Tickets are £4 from Cleckheaton Library and Kirkwood Hospice shops in Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike.

Local companies Swooshed and Tangerine Confectionery have already pledged money – any other businesses wanting to add sponsorship can contact David at djlindsay2@aol.com or call 07900 695873 – or you can donate directly to the Just Giving page at http://www.justgiving.com/David-J-Lindsay.
