New homes in White Lee put off over access

PLANS to build 42 new homes on land off White Lee Road have been deferred as councillors question the access to the proposed site.

Great Lime Holdings Limited is asking Kirklees Council for planning permission to build on a field near to Triath Court and Riding Street, despite objections from local residents.

The council’s highways department has no objection to the plans, but had suggested schemes to manage parking along White Lee Road, and also to manage the speed of traffic.

But at last week’s Heavy Woollen Planning sub-committee meeting, councillors said they were more concerned with the speed of traffic, and requested White Lee Road be looked at in more detail before making a decision.

Their concerns came after they heard from Heckmondwike councillor Viv Kendrick (Lab) who herself was involved in a car accident on the road.
