Fairies have been spotted in West End Park – but they’re not waving wands, they’re brandishing poop scoops!

Irresponsible dog owners who don’t clean up after their pets have been causing a stink.

Now an action group is warning: There’s no such thing as the dog poo fairy - you have to clean up after your own dogs.

The Friends of West End Park in Cleckheaton are sick and tired of clearing up dog poo.

Chairman Martin Webster said: “We are hearing a lot from mothers with children who say they no longer use the park because of all the dogs’ mess, these are the sorts of people parks are made for.

“Obviously it can be dangerous to children, but it is also an isssue of mess. People just leave their dog poo on the sides of the paths, it’s disgusting.”

Wardens from the Kirklees Environmental Protection Team are leafleting residents and will be patrolling the park. Posters have also been fastened to litter bins with the slogan: ‘There is no such thing as the Dog Poo Fairy.’

Mr Webster said: “We liked the message so much we produced our own mini signs on sticks that we are placing close to fouling sites. We hope that as more dog owners join the ranks of the responsible majority, the number of ‘flags’ will dramatically reduce. We don’t think that this is a magic wand but it will help for a spell.”
