THE first ever Spenborough Guardian Bonny Baby turns 13 today – but he has promised not to become a terrible teen.

Callum Broadfield was just eight months old when his mum, Julie, spotted our snappers in Heckmondwike Morrisons and decided to enter her bundle of joy into the fledgling competition.

A few weeks later, she got the news that Callum had won – much to her and husband Craig’s delight.

“I just went to the shop to buy the paper and his picture was on the front page,” said Julie.

“I opened it up and started screaming in the shop that he had won!

“The picture is still hanging upon on the wall in our front room. I don’t have the heart to take it down.”

Callum, his younger brother Curtis, along with their mum and dad spent three nights in London to celebrate his birthday during the half-term holidays.

Our story from January 2000 said Callum’s ‘cheeky smile’ won over the public.
