CLECKHEATON Rotary has a new woman at the helm.
Pam Scales becomes the club’s 80th president and has plenty of experience, having once been president of the Rotary Club of Menorca where she lived for many years.
She has been a Rotarian in Cleckheaton since coming back to the UK in 2007, having been a headteacher of a language school on the Spanish island.
For the past few years she has handled Rotary Foundation matters at the club and headed the club’s role in the End Polio Now campaign.
She has also made four self financed trips to India to help in the vaccination campaign that has seen cases of p olio in India fall to zero in January this year.
She received her chain of office from outgoing president Bill Stevenson at the club’s last meeting which was also attended by Assistant District Governor Paul Cusworth. He congratulated members on their achievements raising more than £5,000 for various charities including the Alzheimers Society and the Royal British Legion, MacMillan Nurses and the ABF campaign. Around £7,000 was also distributed to Spen Valley projects from the club’s Legacy Fund.
Pam’s chosen charities are the Forget-me Not Children’s Hospice and the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust
