A TINY newsagent shop blew up after ram raiders smashed into it.

A Mitsubishi Shogun 4X4 crashed into Wyke News just after midnight on Tuesday.

The crash caused an explosion and the shop, in Huddersfield Road, Wyke, caught on fire before the drivers sped away.

By yesterday morning the building had collapsed.

Lynn Baker, who lives nearby, said she was woken by a loud bang which she later realised was an explosion.

She said: “I thought it was two cars crashing. I looked out and there was a car in the shop. There was a flame coming out of the shop and I called the fire brigade.

“As I was watching, the car set off and went towards Wyke.

“There was another bang and the shop went up in flames.

“The fire brigade and the police came and shut the road off.

“The shop owner hasn’t been here long. There is never really any bother around here.”

Firefighters and police are investigating the cause of the fire.

A police spokeswoman said the Mitsubishi was later found on Hall Bank Drive, Bradford, and four men were believed to have got away.

Nothing was stolen from the shop, she added.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact police on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
