Two organisations in Cleckheaton have been awarded thousands of pounds in grants.

Cleckheaton Central Methodist Church and the Friends of West End Park Group received the grants from the Veolia Environmental Trust, which gives funding for environmental and community projects.

The Friends of West End Park group received £12,000 from the trust to lay a new stretch of path in the park.

The group hopes to create a fitness trail, memorial walk and art park within the space.

Martin Webster from the Friends groups said: “It is great news that the trust has awarded this grant. It will help us enormously with our work and enable us to deliver the next stage of our long-term plan to develop and improve the park for current and future generations of visitors.”

Cleckheaton Methodist Church received a grant of £32,280 to spend on an upgrade of the church’s community facility on the ground floor of the church building on Mortimer Street.

The Rev Roger Smith, from the church, said: “We are delighted about being awarded this grant by the Veolia Environmental Trust.

“It enables us to go ahead this summer with the next phase in our refurbishment programme and will greatly benefit user groups from the local community.”
