A family restaurant on the outskirts of Birkenshaw could provide 75 jobs if planning permission is granted.

Blackshaw Holdings Limited submitted an application to Kirklees Council for the site “linked to” the Whitehall 26 Business Park, in Heathfield Lane, on August 21.

It is not yet known which restaurant would occupy the space.

Vicki Freestone of property agents Turley, which put in the application on behalf of Blackshaw Holdings, said: “We believe the plans for a new restaurant, which would serve much-loved carveries, cask ales and homemade cakes, would not only benefit local residents and nearby businesses, it would also create around 75 new local jobs and help make Whitehall 26 Business Park a more attractive place to work.”

A car park with 90 spaces, including cycle racks for staff and customers, would also be provided according to plans.

Interest in the location came about partly because it is near to major transport routes, such as the A58 and M62, as well as close enough for residents to walk or bike.

It would also be easily easily accessible by car or public transport for surrounding areas.
