DRIVERS rat-running on an access only lane at Roberttown have been foiled by police.
Spen Neighbourhood Policing Team was carried out checks at Little Taylor Hall Lane, which leads from Roberttown Lane to the A62.
The road is for access only and the residents complained to police that motorists were regularly abusing it and using it as a shortcut to get on to Leeds Road.
Officers carried out a stop-check and speeding operation on the lane and stopped 18 motorists.
All those using it as a shortcut were given warnings.
Acting Sgt Nick Doyle of the Spen NPT said: “Residents have contacted us reporting how Little Taylor Hall Lane has, for some time, been used as a cut through, with vehicles travelling up the narrow lane at excessive speeds, putting the residents and their horses in danger.
“As the lane is clearly signposted, the motorists really have no excuse.
“During this operation we wanted to raise awareness, so the 18 drivers stopped were warned regarding their speed and about using the lane as a shortcut.
“In the future tickets shall be distributed to anyone misusing the Lane so I would urge people not to use it as a shortcut any longer.”
