BOBBIES on the beat have uncovered almost 50 cannabis plants in Hightown.
The officers were on patrol in Hare Park Avenue when they noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from one of the flats.
A police spokesman said: “The officers knocked on the door and a man opened it. An even stronger smell of the drug appeared to be coming from inside the flat, with the man himself appearing to be under the influence of drugs.”
He was arrested and a search of the flat found 49 cannabis and other drugs paraphernalia.
Acting Sgt Nick Doyle of the Spen NPT said: “This arrest should send a clear message that the cultivation of cannabis, a Class B controlled drug, is an offence which the police take seriously and anyone suspected of being in possession of the drug, or cultivating it for sale on the streets of our towns will be investigated thoroughly.”
The 28-year old man is on bail pending further enquiries.
