Forget the January sales – one pre-Christmas shopper snatched up Cleckheaton’s former police station for a six figure sum.

The two-storey former station, in York Place, was sold pre-auction for £101,000, three months after police transferred from the building to Heckmondwike police station.

It is not known what the new purpose of the building will be, but auctioneers Pugh and Company said it had ‘potential’ to be renovated.

In September, Spen police relocated to a larger base in Claremont, Heckmondwike.

The 1,930sqft building served as the base for the Spen Neighbourhood Police Team for many years.

Before that it had been used as a doctor’s surgery.
