FOUR men received the shock of their lives on Wednesday as their girlfriends carried on the Leap Day tradition by popping the question.
Jeweller Mark Hepworth, of Robert Openshaw, in Cleckheaton, said he had sold four engagement rings to romantic women in the run up to February 29.
One of the rings was a platinum band worth more than £2,000.
Mark said: “We are yet to see whether their boyfriends said yes or not.
“They were definitely planning to propose on the day and now we’re waiting to hear from the customers to let us know what their boyfriends said. The platinum band was especially beautiful.”
Leap Day is when women can break with tradition and can get down on one knee to propose to their partners.
