A FORMER Hunsworth pub landlord and his quiz team will do battle on national television next week under the watchful eye of host Al Murray.

Simon Glenn, 36, will be joined by his dad Howard and their own former landlord Mark Corrigan when they appear on Al Murray’s Compete For The Meat show on Thursday.

The trio have spent nearly 10 years entering the weekly contest at the Saville Arms, in Hunsworth, which Mark used to run.

Quiz nut Mark applied online for a chance to take part and after a successful audition, they travelled to BBC Television Centre, in London, to film their episode on April 4.

Simon said: “When we go onto the set and were being shown where we would be, Al Murray came onto the floor.

“What a lovely man. He is alarmingly quiet and I didn’t even know he was on set until I heard his voice. He’s totally different from the Pub Landlord persona. It was all good fun.”

During the show, on the Dave channel at 9pm, the lads pit their wits against a team of glamour models from Cardiff.
