Things went swimmingly for pupils who took the plunge at the Spen Valley Schools Swimming Gala.

The annual event was held at Spen Pool, with Headlands in Liversedge and Gomersal Primary emerging as winners.

Headlands won the section for the older pupils, while Gomersal took the honours for the younger ones.

Year six teacher at Gomersal Martin Bendon said: “Our pupils did really well, winning the boys’ team trophy and the overall team trophy. We were very proud of the way they cheered each other on and also very appreciative of the support we received from parents.

“The children also made the school swimming banner and were joint winners of the banner design competition with Gomersal St Mary’s School.”
