A charity is making grand plans to celebrate 25 years of caring for the community.

Milen Care will welcome Baroness Warsi and Mayor of Kirklees, Coun Martyn Bolt, to a gala day to mark its silver jubilee.

The organisation, based at the Al-Hikmah Centre in Track Road, Batley, provides day care for the elderly Asian community and those with physical and mental disabilities. It has been awarded £1,995 from the Batley, Birstall and Birkenshaw Area Committee for the festivities and a week-long Health Awareness scheme.

Milen Care will host a week of activities including poetry sessions, Carrom and indoor skittle competitions, Tai Chi, hand massage and health talks on topics including dementia and diabetes, with more than 250 people expected to join the fun.

Manager Shahed Mayet said: “The whole ethos of our organisation is to improve health and wellbeing , that’s why we wanted to do a health awareness week.”
