A taxi driver was threatened with a taser like weapon as two men stole cash and a handheld computer from his vehicle in Dewsbury.

The driver was picking up a fare in Windsor Close at around 2.15am on Tuesday, when the two males jumped in his taxi.

They brandished a weapon, believed by the victim to be a taser, and gave him an electric shock before stealing £12 in cash and a handheld computer.

The suspects fled the scene on foot after grabbing the items.

Det Sgt Nigel Gittins, of Kirklees CID, said: “This was a shocking incident for the taxi driver and although he was not badly injured, he was shaken up.”

A 39-year-old man has been arrested and bailed in relation to the incident, but police are now appealing for information to find the other suspect.

Anyone with information should contact Kirklees CID via 101.
