FOUR schools battled it out for the honour to be crowned netball champions.

The tournament was held at Whitechapel Primary’s St Luke’s site, where boys and girls from Whitechapel, Howard Park, Scholes and Birkenshaw First School went head to head across three matches.

The overall winners were Scholes, who scored the most points out of the teams competing.

Whitechapel’s deputy headteacher Joanne Burden said the children loved donning the netball bibs for the games.

She said: “Lots of parents and grandparents came to cheer the teams on.

“The children had a fantastic time and it is the first time we’ve held a tournament like this involving netball teams.”

The idea of the tournament was to provide a fun way for the pupils to meet and form strong links between the schools, before the middle schools are phased out from September.
