A CLECKHEATON school has marked the end of an era with the planting of a time capsule.

Pupils from Whitechapel Primary School, which is moving to a brand-new purpose-built site this summer, planted the capsule in the grounds of the Silver Birch pub restaurant in Cleckheaton.

The school is currently based on the old sites of St Luke’s and Moorside first schools, and is moving to the current premises of Whitechapel Middle School this summer.

The time capsule included examples of pupils’ art work, exercise books, poetry and even a school lunch menu!

The burial was also attended by the Mayor of Kirklees, coun David Ridgeway.

Headteacher of Whitechapel Primary School, Michelle Bouabida said: “It was great to be involved in such a fabulous event. All the children showed a real passion for the time capsule and everyone was excited about it.

“Our school council members came along for the burial. We certainly believe that it will make interesting viewing when dug up in 50 years time!”
