Pupils from schools around Cleckheaton took part in a special concert to commemorate the beginning of a new era for the area’s education system.
Whitcliffe Mount Business and Enterprise College was packed to the rafters when it put on its very own version of Ben Elton’s Queen musical We Will Rock You, featuring children aged 10 to 15 from middle and primary schools.
Pupils appearing in the concert had been in rehersals since April.
Deputy headteacher of Whitcliffe Mount Kate Baxter believed that the performance was all down the the hard work of the pupils involved.
She said: “It went really well. We did two shows, and the evening performance was electric. There were about 250 spectators and they all gave the pupils a standing ovation, because all the roles were played so strongly.
“The concert involved pupils from lots of different schools, and many of them will be coming here in September – it was a wonderful way for them to start a new chapter in their school lives.”
