Roads and lanes were lost under heavy snow this weekend.

Schools and shops closed on Friday because of the snow, which continued to fall well into the weekend.

Reader Tina Walker, of Cliff Hollins Lane, Hunsworth, sent us these pictures of the snowdrifts in the village on Saturday and Sunday.

She said: “The lane is completely blocked from Beck View Farm for a few hundred yards, and the snow has drifted into high bankings.”

Meanwhile Hunsworth residents were discussing the unusual conditions on Facebook.

On Saturday at 9pm Tracy Doyle said: “What happened to all the Kirklees ploughs and gritters? There is still no sign on Hunsworth Lane. There is 10ft snow drifts covering the road now so there is no access up this lane. There are no road signs to say the road is closed, and there are cars trying to free themselves but it looks like they will be abandoned for the night. This is an accident waiting to happen. They grit the roads even when there is no ice on the roads.”

Lesley Robinson said: “Gritters and snow ploughs have been on Hunsworth Lane today, I have seen them quite a few times. The wind is causing the snow to drift.”

Kirklees Council said it had carried out a full grit on Saturday and Sunday.

Contact the council’s winter team to request help on 01484 414700.
