A make-up artist to the stars is hitting the headlines in her own right after scooping a top beauty crown.
Former Heckmondwike Grammar pupil Sophie Tozer has been named Miss Professional Great Britain at a ceremony in Derby, qualifying her for the final of this year’s Miss Great Britain contest.
Sophie, 26, who currently lives in Manchester said: “It was a great evening – me and all the girls who were in the Miss Professional final all got along really well, and I was just so pleased to have won.”
Sophie is a freelance make-up artist and aspiring model, and first got the idea to enter the contest when one of her friends suggested she enter.
She said: “I have set up my own make-up business and have managed accounts for other businesses, so when it was suggested to me that I enter the professional heat of Miss GB, I decided to give it a go.
“I don’t know how I will get on in the final, but they were a great bunch of girls in the professionals contest and I just hope it can be as nice an evening this time around.”
Sophie, who counts Coronation Street actresses Samia Ghadie and Katy Jupe among her make-up clients, moved from Cleckheaton five years ago, and has managed departments at Debenhams and Selfridges before setting up her freelance make-up business last year.
But despite living among the bright lights of Manchester, Sophie admits she could never turn her back on Cleckheaton.
She said: “I get back when I can, but I will always be a Spen lass at heart – I used to go to Cleckheaton Sports Club on a Saturday night and I still look out for the results of Cleckheaton Rugby Club!”
Miss Great Britain will be held at the Athena in Leicester from November 14-15. For more information visit www.missgreatbritain.co.uk
