A Cleckheaton businesswoman has spoke of her devastation after thousands of pounds worth of equipment was stolen from her takeaway.
Thugs broke into Mary D’s Chicken in Rawfolds last Wednesday night, cutting gas pipes, telephone lines and the building’s alarm system before gutting the shop of its equipment.
The thieves made off with three pressure fryers, two chip fryers and a rotisserie. They also stole a safe which included three days worth of takings.
Margaret Scott, who runs the takeaway with Mary Duggan, said: “We walked in on Wednesday morning and everything was a blur – we were absolutely devastated.
“They had taken everything has been taken and we have no equipment left.”
Mary added: “It was absolutely soul-destroying.”
“Staff came into work to help us clean up and they were crying.”
Despite the devastating burglary, Mary wants to soldier on and reopen soon.
She said: “We don’t know how quickly we can open again, but obviously we want it to be as soon as possible – we have 14 staff here.”
Police are still on the hunt for the thieves, and have urged anyone who saw anything suspicious between 9am on August 28 and 7.30am on August 29 - particularly a large vehicle near the premises - is asked to contact DC 3580 Mike Parris at Dewsbury CID via 101.
