A DEPUTY headteacher who has seen two generations of pupils in school is to retire.
Helen Grace has worked at Howard Park Community School, Cleckheaton, and is closing her books for the last time after 38 years.
She said: “I started in 1974 when the three tier system first started.
“There are too many memories to mention – it has been a very busy 37 years but a wonderful time with lots of happy memories.
“I am on my second generation of pupils; the mums are now grandmothers and the grandchildren are coming to school. It is really satisfying to see the generations come through because you are familiar with the families and they know you too.”
A goodbye party was held for Helen, 59, at the school last week. She said she was going to take six months off and go on holiday before making any plans. She added: “I would like to thank everybody for their generosity and words of kindness.”
