A PIECE of life saving equipment has been donated to Gomersal Middle School by a leading heart charity.

On Monday, teachers at the school received training on how to operate the Automated External Defibrillator from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

The device, which can restore the heart’s rhythm, was donated by Susan Wylie through the SADS UK charity.

Ms Wylie lost her 16-year-old daughter, Emma, to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndome, in August 2006.

She has since gone on to support Hull University’s research into the disorder.

The machine will allow staff to act quickly if a pupil or colleague goes into cardiac arrest while on the premises.
