TWO local girls hope to be flying the flag for Spen when they take part in forthcoming beauty competitions.

Natalie Summerfield of Gomersal has already won the title of Miss Kirklees Galaxy and in March will compete for the title of Miss Galaxy England 2012 at the Park Hall Hotel, Lancashire.

Hannah Mortimer hopes to win a place in the Miss England beauty contest.

Hannah Mortimer hopes to win a place in the Miss England beauty contest.

The 23-year-old customer services advisor said: “In the run up to the pageant final I will be raising money for Candlelighters, a Yorkshire-charity founded and run by parents of children who have or had cancer. I plan on doing a skydive at the end of January, which is really scary, though my brother, James, is giving me moral support by doing it with me.”

Natalie will compete in four rounds, fashion wear, swimwear, evening wear and interview and the winner will travel to the USA to compete in the Miss Galaxy International final, in the summer.

Anyone wanting to sponsor her skydive can do so by searching for her name on the Just Giving website.

Meanwhile former Spen girl Hannah Mortimer is a finalist in Miss West Yorkshire plus Miss Photogenic and Miss Every Model.

She started modelling at 16, but never dreamed she could be in with a shot at a national title.

I didn’t tell my friends and family I was entering, but they’re all really happy for me,” said the 19-year-old. “If I won any of these competitions I’d get through to Miss England.”

On March 16, Hannah must win over the audience and judging panel at the final of Miss West Yorkshire at the Venue in Halifax.

Hannah, who now lives in Dewsbury, is a former pupil of Heckmondwike’s Stuart Stage School.

In the Miss Photogenic, the views of both the judges and the public will decide who makes it through – to vote for her, visit www.missengland.info/regionals/photoheat4.
