HUNDREDS of fish worth thousands of pounds have been stolen from a pet shop in Wyke.

Thieves broke into the shop in Whitehall Road in the early hours of Tuesday and stole koi carp and goldfish with a combined value of £20,000.

More than 460 koi carp were taken during the burglary, as well as 30 Chinese goldfish.

One of the koi, which was 30ins, was worth £2,000 while a 36-inch koi called Charlie carries a £10,000 price tag.

The Chinese goldfish also cost between £30 and £300 each.

The fish were taken from inside the pet shop as well as from an outside pond.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the burglary, as well as for information from anyone who may have been offered any of the fish for sale or knows where they are.
