A pharmacy left crumbling after being hit by a tractor has been relaunched.
Shah’s Pharmacy, in Valley Road, Liversedge, is now a Healthy Living Pharmacy, offering new services to address local public health challenges.
The pharmacy was hit by the tractor on Sunday April 28 and the retail area was left severely damaged – but despite the damage, dedicated staff opened up as usual the following day.
The pharmacy was given a full refurbishment, and the new look and launch was celebrated by staff and Spen MP Mike Wood last week.
New services include health and wellbeing advice from the pharmacy team; access to NHS services such as stop smoking, emergency contraception, weight management, harm-reduction, advice on alcohol and medicine use reviews.
Dev Shah, Director of Pharmacy Care Plus Ltd, said:“The whole team is involved in delivering the advice we give on healthy lifestyles, with each member of staff specialising. We now give advice on maintaining a healthy diet, we run an alcohol brief intervention service which draws customers into the topic with a thought-provoking scratch card quiz and we offer stop-smoking advice and treatments, to name a few.”
MP Mike Wood said: “I am delighted to be involved in the launch of Shah’s Pharmacy as a Healthy Living Pharmacy, one of the first of its kind in the Batley and Spen constituency.
“It will offer Liversedge an incredibly valuable service and one which I know will be a real benefit to local people.
“It has been a difficult time for Shah’s with the accident earlier this year but the staff have worked hard and with great commitment to ensure that the first class service they provide local people was in no way diminished. The Healthy Living Pharmacy, and all it will offer, is a very welcome extension of their dedication to the job they do.”
