Courts have ruled two groups of travellers pitched illegally in Spen this week must be moved on.

One group parked in Dale Lane and a second moved to a council car park in Crown Street, Cleckheaton, after being moved on by court order from Millbridge Park, Liversedge.

Yesterday the court ruled they must be moved Dale Lane and Kirklees applied to move them on from Crown Street before next weekend’s Folk Festival.

Their presence has sparked a debate over whether a permanent traveller site is needed in Kirklees.

Reader Peter Hardy sent in this photograph of Kirklees Council workers clearing up in Millbridge Park after the travellers left this week.

He said: “It’s a recreational park and travellers are making it hard for people to go out and enjoy it. Filth is just thrown around making it unsafe.

Travellers have been moving around different sites in Spen for months.

On Facebook, Spenborough Guardian followers debated whether Kirklees should have a permanent site.
