Up to 240 new houses are on the way?

Up to 240 new homes could be built on the outskirts of Dewsbury.

Kirklees Council’s Planning Committee will meet today to discuss proposals by Miller Homes for two residential developments at land off Ravensthorpe Road and land off Lees Hall Road in Thornhill Lees.

The first site, which is allocated for housing under the council’s long term development plan, would be accessed via a new T-junction with Ravensthorpe Road.

Planning illustrations show how the land could accommodate up to 120 homes. A report to today’s meeting said some people raised concerns over the loss of greenspace and potential strain on roads, schools and health centres.

The second site would also be made up of around 120 homes and would be accessed from Lees Hall Road.

Some concerns were raised over the loss of green space at a site provisionally allocated as open land in the development plan. But other people commented on both applications to acknowledge a need for housing in the area.
