A CHILDMINDER had so many children she didn’t know what to do – so bought a giant pink shoe to raise cash for new play equipment.

KJB Childcare manager Kay Bennett bought the giant fibreglass stiletto from eBay, hoping to sell it on and raise enough cash to buy a play gym for the children she looks after.

Kay, of Markfield Crescent, Low Moor, said: “We can normally apply for a government grant for big toys but this year the help isn’t there so I set my mind to fundraising.

“I have been looking for interesting items to buy and sell and I found the shoe on eBay.

“We went to pick it up and it was about four times bigger than I thought it would be.

“It was made for New Look’s flagship store in London. The designer, Steve Cole, said it’s a one off, carved in polystyrene and skinned in fibreglass. The foam was then screened with filler, sanded and painted hot pink.”

Kay said she hoped a local business might buy the shoe before she put it up for auction on May 25.

She is hoping to raise £1,000 with the sale of the shoe – roughly the cost of two pairs of (normal sized) Dior shoes like the ones on the left!
