Residents of a Cleckheaton care home got in a spin.

But their freewheeling was nothing more than a good-spirited fundraiser for the Kenmore Cheshire Home.

Both residents and volunteers took part in the first Kenmore wheelchair race at Princess Mary Playing Fields in Littletown.

Volunteer Jeanette Fulwood said: “It was such a good occasion – and all the funds we raised will go towards renovating the residents’ hair salon.

“We would like to thank the people at the track who let us use it for free.”

The winner was Kenmore resident and Spenborough Guardian contributor Audrey Johnston.

Jeanette added: “One of our residents, decided to run the race backwards – he came third!”

After the race, participants enjoyed ice cream in the sun.

It is hoped that the event raised at least £100.
