Youngsters across Kirklees celebrated World Book Day on Thursday by dressing up as their favourite characters.

At Batley Grammar Primary School they chose a different kind of celebration, with pupils coming to school in their pyjamas.

Batman pyjamas and giraffe onesies were just some of the colourful outfits on display.

Youngsters curled up under quilts, blankets and in sleeping bags with their torches turned on and listened to some of their favourite stories.

At Little Acorns day nursery in Mirfield, children imitated Where’s Wally and Harry Potter, made bookmarks and drew their favourite characters.

Another Little Acorns nursery, in Cleckheaton, also enjoyed stories whilst dressed up as their favourite characters.

Pupils at Old Bank Junior and Infant School in Mirfield were given a treat when WHSmith in Dewsbury provided them with new books.
