A history teacher has written a guide book for anyone thinking of visiting the First World War battlefields, museums and memorials in France and Belgium.

Gareth Hughes believes his book, Visiting the Somme and Ypres: Battlefields Made Easy, is the perfect start-point for getting the most out of a trip to The Western Front.

It focuses on the battlefield sites of the Somme in France and Ypres in Belgium.

Gareth, who was born in Dewsbury, now lives in Stamford Bridge and is head of history at Pocklington School. He has led many groups to the Western Front in the past.

His experiences showed him there was a real need for a guide book for party leaders, so he decided to write one.

“It strips it down to two to three tour routes,” he said. “It’s built around stories which other books don’t do. It’s a bit of a niche in the market.”

Copies of the book are available from Amazon for about £10.
