This year we celebrate the centenary of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Heckmondwike, which was builit in 1914, largely with money from one of our most famous priests – Father John O’Connor – who was the inspiration for G K Chesterton’s Father Brown detective stories.
Coincidentally BBC 1 is showing a second series of Father Brown stories every day at 2.15pm this week and all next week.
This is a centenary which we hope everyone in the town will want to celebrate as a great many of them have had associations with the
church at some time in their lives through ‘hatches, matches and dispatches’!
Watch these columns of the Spenborough Guardian for regular updates or email me firstname.lastname@example.org and let’s all make it a great year in the church and town’s history.
