After reading statements on the so-called bedroom tax, it reminded me of my school days and being told about the “window tax” in the 18th century.
Then, people in cottages sealed up the windows with Yorkshire stones to reduce the number of windows, and therefore reduce their window tax.
Are we going to see people in houses with more bedrooms than they need sealing up the bedroom doorways to reduce the bedroom tax?
There is an old saying that there is nothing new under the sun – history tells us this is so.
