THERE isn’t much news to cheer these days.
I don’t approve of Kirklees Council’s proposals to reduce street lighting, or the reduction in opening times at Red House Museum, though I do accept that these cost-cutting measures are due to government cutbacks in expenditure for local authorities.
However I am pleased to see the recent development of Firth Park in Heckmondwike, which has seen the introduction of a cricket pitch at the side of the tennis court, and at the back of the children’s play area, is a new boules pitch.
I haven’t a clue how to play this French game – I’m told it’s a form of bowls played with metal balls.
Can’t wait to get my bowling arm in action!
