Build on eyesore sites, not green fields

The fire at the old Maccess building in Spen Lane could be the final nail in having it demolished, so say Gomersal councillors,

The owners of this site are a disgrace to Gomersal and Cleckheaton for letting it get into such a bad state in the first place.

The old Whiteleys site at the bottom of Spen Bank should also be demolished and used for affordable housing.

Both these sites have been empty and derelict for years.

Kirklees Council should be looking at compulsory purchase of both these brownfield sites where a very large number of houses could be built before the greenfield sites that is being considered for building on at Lower Blacup between Westgate, Cleckheaton and Hightown
