I WAS moved to tears after reading last week’s front page about the death of a young motorcyclist in Birkenshaw.
What a tragic and needless waste of a young man’s life.
But I was also touched by the bravery of his father who spoke so candidly at a time of great sorrow in appealing to others to not get behind the wheel — or on a bike — when they have been drinking.
How often do we read of lives cut short because people’s judgement has been impaired through drink driving or even taking drugs?
Lives which had been so full of promise.
I sincerely hope people heed Mr Newsome’s words and that he can take some comfort from the fact that if he has stopped at least one other person from making the same mistake, then his son’s death will not have been in vain.
